In c.870AD the Viking Chief Harald Harfagre (Harold Fairhair) won the Battle of Hafrsfjord and the kingdom of Norway was created. Harald's throne was at Avaldsnes which had been a centre of power for over 2000 years and became Norway's Royal Throne until the Middle Ages.
